Digital Sustainability

Digital sustainability states that digital materials are resource-conserving, freely used, collaboratively developed and secured in the long term. Therefore, on the one hand, open storage formats and software systems are necessary, at the micro level. On the other hand, it must be ensured that information is secured from manipulation that data is protected, and confidentiality is maintained. Thirdly, the appropriate structures and rules are needed for the sustainable development of our knowledge society at macro level so that dependencies on companies and states are reduced and innovation and competition in information and communication systems will increase.
